About the MHPN
The Midlands Health Psychology Network (MHPN) is a forum for health psychologists to share clinical and research experiences and information. The committee is responsible for organizing meetings, recruiting external speakers, managing membership registration and maintaining the mailing list and website.
MHPN activities include: an annual conference, CPD training days, and networking events. We welcome members at all stages of their training and careers, as well as anyone with an interest in health psychology. Existing members include MSc students, doctorate students, chartered health psychologists based at local NHS sites and regional universities, third sector employees, senior and early career academics, health practitioners and advisors and even pharmacists.
The MHPN mailing list keeps members updated on health psychology related training events, conferences and job opportunities. We are constantly updating this site with new information, so please come back regularly to stay up to date. If you wish to advertise an event or job via our mailing list please email us at mail@mhpn.co.uk.
2013 Conference
The 2013 MHPN conference 'Matters of the Heart' took place yesterday and we are pleased to announce it went very successfully! The committee would like to thank Bethan Davies and Elaine Walket for their hard work in organising the event. We would like to extend a special thank you to the key note speakers Prof Gill Furze and Prof Roger Ingham and our introductory speaker Dr Tony Cassidy, chair of the Division of Health Psychology, for their attendance and fantastic talks. Another thank you goes out to all of the brilliant oral presenters and poster presenters and finally thank you to all of our delegates who made the day possible.

Congratulations to the best oral submission winner: Nadine Wood (De Montford University) for her presentation 'Exploring the experiences of people with muscular dystrophy using Q Methodology' Wood N, Williamson I. The category was judged by Dr Tony Cassidy and the MHPN committee. Nadine received a prize and a certificate.
Congratulations are also extended to Dr Sam Malins (Clinical Psychologist, University of Nottingham) who won the best poster prize for his poster 'Helping a "Heart-Sink" patient with heart failure: A case illustration of managing regular attendance in Primary Care' Malins S, Patel S, Morriss R, Atha C, Avery T, Bayes S, Kai J, O'Hara D, Stubley M. The category was judged by Prof Gill Furze and the MHPN committee. Dr Malins received a prize and a certificate.

Free Health Psychology and Careers Event
'Is Health Psychology for you'? Friday 8th March 2013 2-7pm
Coventry University Health Psychology Team will be hosting a free seminar and careers event at Coventry University's London Campus. Guest speaker will be Dr Katherine Brown (Reader in e-health and well-being interventions). Katherine will talk about her team's work on sexual health, young people and e-interventions (see www.healthinterventions.co.uk for more information).
There will also be an opportunity to meet the course team and find out about careers in health psychology and related professions. Book your free place.
Emotional impact of research on researchers:
'Research that breaks your heart': The emotional impact of research on the researcher. This one-day workshop is aimed at individuals who are conducting research on the emotionally challenging topics. It is sponsored by The Psychology Postgraduate Affairs Group and Oxford Brookes University.

Dr Tony Cassidy, chair of the BPS Division of Health Psychology, will be giving an opening talk at the conference. We will also be hosting oral presentations and poster presentations.
